Bennett Ghormley is the author of Elements for Achieving a Zero-Injury Culture: Leadership framework for Modern Organizations and President & CEO of Zero Injury Institute, Inc. based in Friendswood, Texas.
Through the Institute, Bennett works with owners, contractors, and site leadership teams across all industries delivering on-site workshops, consulting, and training built on decades of zero-injury research and field results.
His approach rests on a simple conviction: extended periods of zero injuries is not a matter of luck. They are the predictable result of leadership that communicates a vision of zero, activates research-backed leading indicators, and builds safety knowledge at every level of the organization.
Our mission is to preserve the lives, well-being, and futures of employees and their families by advancing the principles, practices, and leadership disciplines that make zero-injury not only possible, but sustainable.
We exist to help organizations build cultures where every worker is valued, every task is planned and safely executed, and where every family can trust that their loved one will return home safely every day.
Our Purpose is simple and unwavering: Zero injuries, zero harm, and zero compromise.
Top leaders must constantly communicate their vision of work executed with zero at-risk behavior — until every crew hears it, sees it, and achieves it.
Safety success depends on a set of research-backed, activated leading safety indicators — not on counting injuries after they happen.
Employee safety knowledge must exist at all levels of the project organization for leading indicators to do their job.
Zero Injury Institute, Inc. provides safety leadership training, on-site workshops, consulting, and licensing to organizations committed to zero-injury performance. The Institute's methods build on foundational research by Emmitt J. Nelson, M.E. (retired, Shell Oil Company) and the Construction Industry Institute (CII), Austin, Texas — updated through 20+ years of continued field application.
Emmitt J. Nelson, publishing contributor to the book, chaired the CII taskforce that first documented how construction projects achieve zero injuries over extended periods. His work, The Employer Safety Guidebook to Zero Employee Injury, remains a cornerstone of the Institute's teaching — used by permission and carried forward in Bennett's book.
"Extended periods of zero-injury performance is not luck. They are the product of disciplined leadership."Bennett Ghormley
